About me

I have enjoyed art my entire life but didn't begin to paint seriously until after retirement.  I am a self-taught artist, who likes studying about art as much as I enjoy painting.  I paint in a photo-realistic style in water soluble oils and colored pencils.  Both my oil and colored pencil works are rendered by careful application of layers of color with special attention to detail and the contrast between light and dark values in the composition.  In my colored pencil works, I strive for a painterly look, the result of which is a work of art that resembles oil paintings.  In my spare time, I enjoy the Russian folk art of painting wooden nesting dolls and Santa Claus carvings.  I have also written a book "Paint Your Own Nesting Dolls" available on Amazon at www.amazon.com which offers a complete guide on how to paint these charming decorations.
